Overview

Few of us think of windows as lifesaving equipment, but they are! Bedroom windows that are properly equipped for egress in the event of an emergency can be the difference between life and death.

3,500 to 4,000 people perish in home fires annually; in addition to the 15,000 to 21,000 who are injured. Half of these deaths occur at night when people are asleep and get trapped in their bedroom without a second way out in the event smoke or fire blocks their normal escape route.

Since September 1973, building codes require that in all new construction, every sleeping room have at least one operable window with a clear opening of 5.7 square feet to act as an egress window during an emergency. The code also requires that the maximum allowable distance from the floor to the window sill is no more than 44 inches in order to be acceptable as an emergency escape or egress window.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the owner, architect, contractor and or builder to select products that comply with applicable, state and local building codes and that is appropriate for the application and use. A building permit probability will be needed.

REDI-EXIT® Compact Double Hung In-swing Egress Windows

REDDCO'S REDI-EXIT® Compact Double Hung In-swing Egress Windows are the smallest windows designed to meet or exceed the emergency egress window requirements of the IRC 2006 code.

They can be used for new or replacement construction in above ground or basement applications.

These vinyl windows operate as a normal double hung window but in the event of an emergency a latch in the corner of the window is opened and the whole double hung window hinges into the room and out of the way giving you 5.7 square feet of clear area for escape.

Since both the top and bottom of the window opens up it gives you double the square feet of clear area that you would get from a standard double hung window that doesn’t hinge out of the way.

These economical egress windows come in two stock sizes; 28" X 46" and 31" X 41" with right or left hinging, for immediate delivery or can be special ordered to fit any custom size requirements.

A Fiberglass Half Screen comes standard or an optional Stainless Steel Security Screen is available.

Egress windows are supplied in either white or beige vinyl and can be custom built with optional grids or lites in both the upper and lower window sections to match your home. We also offer Low “E" and Argon filled glass options for energy saving performance. An Optional nailing strip is available.

REDI-EXIT® Sliding Basement Egress Windows

REDDCO'S REDI-EXIT® Sliding Basement Egress Windows are designed to meet the emergency egress window requirements of the IRC 2006 code, and are designed for basement applications.

These white vinyl windows come in two standard sizes 48" X 48" and 60" X 48" for both new and replacement construction applications. They are available in 7.5", 8", 9.5", 10", and 11.5" buck widths. The Egress Windows Lift out for easy cleaning.

REDI-EXIT® Sliding Egress Windows are supplied standard with 3/4" clear insulated glass and a screen. An optional 3/4" Low "E" insulated glass window is also available.
